PUBLIC NOTICE
Lincoln County School System Announces Child Find Efforts to Determine Eligibility for Special Education Services
In accordance with IDEA regulations, the Lincoln County School System seeks to ensure that all disabled students (Birth to age 21), who need special education within its jurisdiction are identified, located, and evaluated. This includes students attending private schools, preschools, and who are homeschooled.
Many children are born with or acquire physical and/or mental conditions which adversely impact their normal growth and development. Many of these conditions can be helped if parents and others recognize the problem early and seek help. Anyone can help us identify children with special needs, including parents, foster parents, grandparents, teachers, doctors, nurses, counselors, social workers, day care providers, and community members. If you know of a child in Lincoln County from birth through age 21 who may have special needs, please let us know so we can get them the help they need to enjoy a brighter future.
For more information concerning eligibility criteria and referral procedures, please contact Dr. Benton Cunningham with the Special Education Department at the Lincoln County Board of Education for further guidance at 706-359-3742.
Notice to Parents of Former Special Education Children
Special Education records maintained at the Lincoln County Board of Education will not be retained after a child’s 22nd birthday. If a parent or student would like to have these records, please call the Board of Education by July 31, 2025 and speak with Mrs. Carla Matthews at 706-359-3512.
